FAREWELL COVE

It was with great sadness that the people of Tiernaur/ Mulranny learned of Fr. Jarlath's departure. A native of Westport he served eight years in this area. It is said that each new priest brings something new with them when they arrive in a parish and Fr Heraty certainly did that.

He worked away quietly enhancing both churches and left his mark on all the churches, halls and schools in the Parish through the FAS scheme that he sponsored for 7 years.

He brought a unique brand of sponsoring in that he had the ability to bring out the best in the participants, working with them rather than over them which resulted in an amazing amount of work being done in Cuilmore school, Newport School, Mulranny school, Newport Church, Shramore Church, Tiernaur Church and Mulranny Church and the three halls. Badly wanted wheel chair access has been added to both Mulranny and Tiernaur churches and both churches re roofed. It was not unusual to see him with a paint brush in his hand painting at the school or mowing the grass when the need arose! We have witnessed the birth of our weekly newsletter which he painstakingly put together every Friday night, gathering material, typing and photocopying over 400 copies by himself every week

His First Friday visits were always eagerly awaited by the sick and elderly as he always had time to sit and chat with them, and Christmas and Easter were also awaited by the many mass servers who were always given a selection box and Easter egg and the odd 50p on a Sunday as a token of his appreciation for their service, and not forgetting the outing that he brought them on each year.

He started the Foroige club and worked with it for 3 years and has served on the school board resulting in a total revamp of Mulranny school both inside and out and adding a much needed staff room.

Most of all we will remember him for his devotion to his faith. He had nine Masses a week between the two Churches and he always made the First confessions, First Communions and Confirmation so special for the children involved. We thank him and wish him Health and happiness in the future. Mile Buiochas, —People of Tiernaur and Mulranny.
